Organization of the Steel and Mining Syndicate

The Syndicate Leadership

Elected every 5 years, it represents the governing body of the syndicate. The syndicate leadership defines the policy of the syndicate in the national steel sector and this obviously within the framework and in accordance with the guidelines and statutes of the OGBL. The syndicate leadership is composed of representatives elected on the occasion of the syndicate days and covers all the national steel sites.

The Steel Committee

It is a direct emanation of the syndicate leadership and is made up of liberated delegates from the various sites as well as different persons with special responsibilities (e.g. safety delegates, OGBL representative on the European Works Council, etc.).

The steel committee guarantees the permanent follow-up of trade union issues between meetings of the syndicate leadership. It can also be charged by the syndicate leadership with specific missions concerning the trade union policy to be carried out in the steel sector.

The tariff committee

The negotiation of collective agreements is one of the important activities of the Steel and Mining Syndicate. In our sector there is a collective agreement for all employees.

The guidelines for the elaboration of the union’s list of demands during negotiations are defined by the syndicate leadership. The tariff commission approves, revises or rejects the proposed list of demands, it also accepts or rejects the results of the negotiations.

The tariff committee is composed of effective and substitute delegates from the steel industry, so-called “trusted persons” as well as representatives of the apprentices at the training center.
